Spring 2015: Expected award of third round of grants for faculty and staff members’ collaborative projects, for summer 2015.

March 31, 2014Overview – A Successful Year
On March 31, Carleton and St. Olaf submitted their first annual project report to the Mellon Foundation. With a very wide array of activities, the colleges reported several key accomplishments in the first year of the grant, which covered the calendar year 2014:

  • Library staff conducted substantial research into a new library management system (with adoption planned for 2015).
  • Library and information technology leaders developed several shared positions in the library and IT Olaf SPRING 2010 ERIC 46-Morganizations.
  • Library and IT staff worked to harmonize numerous library and IT policies and practices, and creatively explored opportunities for additional collaboration.
  • A faculty committee awarded sixteen “Exploration Grants” worth a total of approximately $50,000 to faculty and staff teams that are undertaking collaborative projects. (Summaries of these grants can be found here: spring 2014 | fall 2014.)

November 6, 2014: Award of second round of grants made to support faculty and staff members’ collaborative projects, over winter and spring 2015.

October 22, 2014: St. Olaf and Carleton Physics Departments stage a joint poster session for all Ole and Carl physics and astronomy students who conducted research or held internships over summer 2014.

Fall 2014: Offering of first course designed for joint enrollment, Greg Marfleet’s “Political Psychology of Presidential Foreign Policy Decision Making

Summer 2014: Pursuit by faculty and staff of numerous collaborative projects.

May 19, 2014: Award of first round of grants made to support faculty and staff members’ collaborative projects, largely over summer 2015

January 1, 2014: Launch of four-year project with a kick-off meeting convened by Presidents David R. Anderson and Steven B. Poskanzer.

December 18, 2013: Award of $1,400,000 grant to the colleges by the Foundation.

October 11, 2013: Submission by the colleges of a joint proposal to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for a four-year, $1,400,000 collaborative project.

Fall 2012 through Summer 2013: Completion of exploratory project.

July 16, 2012: Award by the Foundation of the $50,000 exploratory grant to the colleges

June 21, 2012: Submission by the colleges of a joint proposal to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for a one-year, $50,000 exploratory project
